It’s my birthday and I’ll pie if I want to.

Each year I plan less and less in the way of celebrating my brilliance.  Before I turned 30, I wanted to do 30 parties for being 30 (I didn’t bother – but if you knew me back then you will know I was never sober).  Most years I try to go to fabric, or do something in London, go clubbing, organise a party – whatever but I never let it pass quietly. I’m hardly letting it pass quietly this year with a birthday roast for me and several of my adored friends on Sunday and a tour of Peckham on … Continued

13 Highlights Of 2014

Yeah I know 2014 is practically forgotten but I have been writing this since 2014 which kind of counts. These are my 13 moments of last year that made me happy.  In order – though number 2 and number 1 are miles ahead of all the others. 13. England Equalise.  In a packed Walkabout, England score the equaliser against Uruguay.  The strange large guy next to me that kept putting his arm around me, climbed onto a stool and proceeded to throw two full pitchers of beer everywhere as everyone went absolutely nuts, somehow without falling off, despite his intoxication. … Continued

Review Of My 2014 Goals

Homemade apple pie image

It’s about time to look back at my goals for 2014 and see what I achieved.  Can you believe that some people (yes more than one!) have actually asked me how I got on, and what my 2015 goals are?! For 2015 I am going to attempt to make my goals a little more interesting.  Somehow. So these were my goals for 2014: 1. A normal one to start – continue to do well at work.  I am hoping that there may be further opportunities seeing as we have just taken over a company 2-3 times our size.  I am … Continued

The Christmas Blog

I arrived home two days before Christmas. “What have you done to your hair”, was the first thing my mother said.  Quickly followed up by “you’ve put on weight”.  Yeah I kind of know that already given that I weigh myself about 6 times a day and record both my morning and night weight every day on a spreadsheet.  I do know I have put on weight. So I quickly popped out to the chip shop.  Can you believe someone asked for cod?  WTF?  Clearly an immigrant. That round thing is a pattie by the way.  Chip spice on the … Continued

14 Things I Learnt In Dublin

I’ve decided to mix it up a bit and not do a straight up review of my trip (partly because a fair amount of it should not be listed publicly), but instead a list of what I have learnt: 1. It is particularly difficult to find an off license in Dublin.2. Dublin looks similar to Coventry.  Or any average UK town.3. Most guys have very unadventurous hairstyles.  Yes, my mullet received a fair amount of attention.4. All pubs are rammed, a lot of the time.5. Caviar is nice.  Lentils are not.   6. The Magician does not play my kind … Continued

Dear Foreign Student, We Want Your Money. Then Get Out.

woman wearing black suede stilettos

I read with disappointment this morning that Theresa May wants to deport foreign students as soon as they their student visa expires, assumedly straight after their course finishes, instead of the current scheme where they are allowed 4 months to find a job. The reason for this is purportedly to stop those on student visas from overstaying their welcome. A quick question to start.  How is removing this 4 month buffer going to ensure that no students stay longer than their visa entitles them to? Surely if someone intends on overstaying their visa – they are going to do it … Continued

Sven Vath & Cocoon @ Building Six 22/11/2014

A year isn’t a year unless I have danced to Papa Sven and it is my 10 year anniversary since I saw the Cocoon light, ditching the likes of David Guetta, Paul Van Dyk and Erick Morillo for a far more sonically satisfying, albeit at first a rather confusing form of dance music.  Where is the drop?! I really wanted to go to Sven’s 50th birthday in Mannheim, I deeply felt I should given how much Sven means to me but the finances didn’t allow (plus I don’t like the music that the two main supporting DJs play – Richie … Continued

30 Things That Are Pissing Me Off Right Now

pedestrian zone walk your wheels

Around one third of this blog was supposed to be meranting.  All it seems to have become iswhat have I done. This is what is pissing me off currently: I just need to decide what I am eating with my gravy tonight.

James Went To Brussels

There tend to be disturbances prior to my visits to foreign lands – riots in Paris many years ago, a bomb threat evacuated Ibiza airport the morning of one trip, the army were sent to protect London airports just before another trip abroad…this, my first trip to look at foreigners this year, was no different: I can only assume my presence has a calming, reassuring effect when I arrive. I hadn’t been on holiday yet in 2014, however I thought I should take one final opportunity to use the Euro before it collapses.  The arrival of an e-mail offering return … Continued

Don’t Chop His Ed Off!

Back me: Miliband’s plea to plotters”. “Miliband fights for his political life”. “Miliband bid to disarm his party critics”. “Miliband fights off Labour coup”. “Bonfire Night Plot To Oust Ed”. “Secret plan for end of Miliband”. These are the delightful headlines this morning. Delightful to a point.  For whilst it is a source of hilarity to find Ed Miliband has become more unpopular than the maligned Nicholas Clegg, we do actually need him as leader of the Labour Party. For Odd Miliband is one of our greatest electoral assets.  Many people in the country are aware that him and Balls … Continued
