Defending Wayne Rooney

A few weeks ago, I got very upset when I heard that Coca-Cola would not be renewing it’s contract with Wayne Rooney to promote it’s products, following his behaviour.

I thought I should write a letter to explain and defend his behaviour…

I am shocked at the reports that Coca Cola have confirmed that it will not be renewing its £600,000 a year contract with Wayne Rooney to promote its products.

This just comes a couple of days after Wayne Rooney swore at TV cameras in a football match, and also I read that senior figures at Coca Cola were disgusted with the allegations that Wayne Rooney slept with prostitutes whilst his wife was pregnant.

I think you mis-understand your target market in the UK. Sleeping with prostitutes is something to be admired in the UK. Large groups of men take holidays to established red-light districts such as Amsterdam, and those who sleep with the most prostititues gain the highest kudos.

Prostitution is also at large in society through less direct forms – those of us who are a little less brazen, still have to spend large amounts of money of buying drinks, flowers, shoes, etc in exchange for sexual favours.
Also, having a full command of the English language involves being able to emphasise your points adequetly, and if you have suffered from poor education standards then it is often necessary to use swear words to
articulate your message.

I for one, now no longer believe that I want to drink Coca Cola, as it no longer represents what I believe is great about UK culture.

I eventually received the following rather pathetic and unhelpful response…
