Complaint: JP Chenet

I thought I’d upload a couple of my old complaints that have been sitting in my Hotmail for absolutely no reason at all.  Maybe one of you will chuckle. This was from when I used to live in my crap flat, and when I started the complaint in June 2011, I had a miserable job with a witch of a manager and drunk a lot of wine.  JP Chenet wine, to be exact. It would often be a herculean effort to get the corkscrews out.  Here goes: Dear JP Chenet I love your wine, however, it is very difficult to … Continued

Lent 2016

mujer en hotel

Every year I give up something profound for Lent. I feel that it is important to show my humility and make a sacrifice on an annual basis. In previous years, I have given up such delights as paper clips, French swear words and zebra crossings. There was a year that I gave up semi-colons – which would have been a nightmare if I was learning how to code back then. And last year I gave up eyebrow grooming.  A quarter of my eyebrow hairs grow twice as long as the others – I had proper old politician bushes by Easter. … Continued

2016 Goals

Eagle House, Bracknell

Now birthday season is long out of the way, it is time to set myself some goals for the year ahead.  Or the next 11 months anyway. I’m never sure this is the most exciting post ever, but I like posting it so there. Lifestyle Lose Weight – My original plan was to get down to 87kg last year, then 83kg this year.  Given that I failed, I’m amending this to 85kg this year (I’m currently 91kg as of writing). 36 Day Detox – I’m upping it by 5 days this year (in effect an extra weekend, eeek!) and including … Continued

My Books Of 2015

books in black wooden book shelf

The Record Players – Bill Brewster This was often a fascinating read – a collection of in depth interviews with some of the most important characters that there has ever been in the history of dance music. I certainly felt a bit uncomfortable reading the first interview on the train – which was with Jimmy Savile.  Love him or not (possibly the latter), I have to say that he came across as a bit of an arrogant twat. Some of the early interviews were fascinating, such as with the late John Peel – others not so much – there were … Continued

Review Of 2015 Goals

This probably isn’t my most interesting of posts, but I like to have it up for posterity.  Red text denotes success or lack of it: Lifestyle Lose Weight – So I didn’t quite manage my 6kg target last year.  I finished at 94kg, pretty much what I started on but averaged 91.5kg.  My goal is to get down to 87kg by December.  It’s a long-term goal – a lifestyle change not a crash diet.  I had got down to 89k, but ended close to 93kg.  Total failure. Monthly No Computer Evening – I live my life around my computer.  All … Continued

Detox 2016

Two years ago when I did my fear-inducing virgin detox, I needed it.  I had been drinking and partying almost every weekend since I was 14.  I’d certainly not had any more than a week’s break from intoxicants since my early teenage years.  My body needed it. This time I don’t need the detox so much, but I want the detox.  I am craving my detox.  And it is for a greater variety of reasons than just my health. I am expanding my detox this time.  Firstly to 36 days – because I am 36 years old.  I am also … Continued

Observations On Bracknell

I did mean to write a post about my first impressions of Bracknell when I arrived, but I have been so depressed since stepping foot into Great Holland’s that I haven’t been able to broach my emotions on the subject. I am now ready. Occasionally in my life, I have dreamt of getting arrested, so I’m viewing this as a stint in an open prison – I’m doing time. My initial sentence of 6 months is nearly up, though I fear it may be extended due to bad behaviour. One of the first aspects about Bracknell life that I noticed … Continued

2015: Frustration, Funerals & A Flurry Of Fun

woman in white shirt showing frustration

2015 was an interesting year.  Plenty of good moments but also some very sad moments too.  It hasn’t been the best year I’ve had but it certainly has not been the worst year. I’ll start with the frustration.  Once I received my higher than expected bonus, I then concluded that I was bored at work and didn’t want to spend another summer in an oven.  So around April time, I started looking for jobs – though I was being very picky, only going for jobs with a decent pay rise, and that were in the centre of Reading, or in … Continued

And That Was Christmas 2015

I spoke to my French colleague today and she told me that it took her 3 hours door-to-door to get from her house in England to her house in France. Well, on Christmas Eve, it took me 10 hours – 4 of those stuck between Grantham and Retford. A joyous start to Christmas, but it was good to be back home, until my mother put on a church choir singing programme and I wished I was back on that train.  Things improved when we watched Caravan TV, which included the process for building a caravan.  Sky – 1,000 channels of … Continued
