2013 Goals

motivational pink background with goals text

I thought that it was time to formalise my goals for 2013.  Having them in writing is likely to help me focus where required – and in my current case, refocus. These were what I wrote down at the beginning of the year: 1. Continue to do well at work and beat targets.  At some point though I do need to increase how much I earn. 2. Studying.  I really want to continue to learn web design, in particular CSS3 and also Photoshop. 3. My web sites.  Start updating Ubereadoolische every week and see where I can take it.  Also … Continued

Project Boring James

Today is the birth of Boring James. Mundane, monotonous, tedious and tiresome. This will be my most challenging project for many a year.  This most crazy yet supremely dull endeavour will involve lots of staying in, and very little going out.  Old forms of fun such as drinking, partying and nightclubs will be sent to the gutter.  Yes from now on, fun will consist of making bread, buying new pillows and re-organising music folders. Staying in is my new going out.  Except for the fact over the next few weeks I have a family wedding, a daytime London clubbing sesh, … Continued

Perturbations & Alterations

Sleeping girl by Harald Giersing

A very good friend of mine has been visiting recently and asked me an unexpectedly pertinent question – “So what’s new, James?”. I thought for a couple of minutes.  My answer was, “Fuck all”. I am a little perturbed with myself at the moment. I seem to have lost control of my life.  All I do during the week is work and sleep.  Then at the weekend party and sometimes sleep. Work Sleep Work Sleep Work Sleep Work Sleep Don’t Sleep Drink, party Feel like shit Sleep Work… You get the picture. This is a more than acceptable existence and … Continued

Goodbye Student Loan

A monumental milestone in my life.  My student loan is repaid.  The “wee stopsie” is in place and Glasgow’s most efficient company have stopped taking payments. Yes I actually went to university back in 1998.  Left in 2000 voluntarily without a degree.  I achieved many things in that time, including learning that just putting your name on an exam paper doesn’t get you a mark, that discrimination against common Northern oiks by the futurelandowners of this country is endemic, men get stalkers too, that there is not a limit to the hours that should be spent playing Championship Manager, that … Continued

Friends

silhouette friends enjoying sunset by lake

This weekend was a reminder of what a wonderful group of friends I have, so many people taking the time out to give some support to those going through such a difficult moment of their lives, a life-changing event, something that is almost unimaginably unbearable.  Such a unique and beautiful group, they have changed me markedly for the better over the years.  I dearly hope that there is a positive outcome.  Never say never. I didn’t really want to talk about myself given that something far more important has been going on than any minor dramas I may have but … Continued

Hot, hot, hot.

NASA Finds Super-Hot Planet with Unique Comet-Like Tail

Just in case you haven’t noticed, and for those in the various foreign spy agencies following me, it has been pretty hot recently.  For those moaning, don’t worry, two weeks from now you will be fed up of the rain and moaning about that instead.  I prefer those who keep changing what they moan about rather than drone on about the same old thing all the time.  Creative moaning. For those in the Kremlin, do not worry, your summer is around the corner. It has been quite an exceptional spell of weather in terms of unbroken sunny, dry and hot … Continued

Ricardo Villalobos @ fabric 06/07/2013

busy london bridge underground station street view

I was fabulously excited last week before going to fabric for the first time this year, convinced it would be my best night out all year.  Just in case you don’t know, fabric is my favourite nightclub in the world, and Ricardo Villalobos is my favourite DJ in the world. We arrived around 1am after I had done a little sobering up to surprisingly no queue (for members).  In fact the night never became as busy as I am used to for Ricardo Villalobos. We started in room 2 and in particular we were both very impressed with Konrad Black, … Continued

Strawberry Distress

fresh ripe strawberries in abundance

I think this is a return to form for my complaints… *************************** Dearest Sainsburys I have a friend that moved out to Australia and she has been watching Wimbledon and is very upset that she cannot get British strawberries in Australia. I wanted to rescue the damsel-in-strawberryless-distress so I agreed to send some over in my teleport machine. However my teleport machine is quite particular in terms of the integrity of objects it sends, especially living items, and it rejected the strawberries due to “Intolerable Levels of Infection”. To explain in non-teleport terminology, the strawberries that were delivered to me … Continued

Farewell Mervyn King – Total Failure

desperate evicted male entrepreneur standing near window

The British honours system doesn’t always get it right.  Fred Goodwin and Jimmy Saville were two that I re-salutated from Sir to Scumbag long before their titles were removed. Mervyn King is another one who needs to be dethroned. There are many who seem to in praise of Mr King, mostly due to his record on taming inflation.  Inflation was indeed a major economic problem for the UK for several decades, however for the first two thirds of Mr King’s reign, it was targeted at 2% and mostly achieved.  Inflation it seemed, had been tamed. But why was this?  Was … Continued

Doctors

man in white coat standing beside gray wall

I don’t go to the doctors.  I am a man.  I shouldn’t need a doctor – I sometimes get ill and then my body repairs itself.  Normally I know what is wrong.  If I don’t know what is wrong, I search Google, diagnose myself and move on. The last time I went to the doctors, Tony Blair was still in charge.  The phrase ‘credit crunch’ still hadn’t been invented and every single weekend I would go to Mango (nightclub) and there would be 30 good friends there.  Life was all about fun, credit limits were imaginary, credit cards were status … Continued
